Provides potable, retail water to the unicorporated communtiy of Bell Canyon.Created to visualize and identify ditricts current and historical annexations.Ventura County Waterworks District No. 17 (District) was formed on April 11, 1977, and serves approximately 2,000 people through 665 service connections. The District encompasses approximately 4,900 acres in Bell Canyon and the contiguous area to the north. The Water and Sanitation Services Division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the water system. The Ventura County Board of Supervisors is the governing body of the District. All proposed policy changes are reviewed by the Citizen’s Advisory Committee prior to Board action. The Citizen’s Advisory Committee members are appointed by the Ventura County Board of Supervisors. Meetings are held bimonthly at the Bell Canyon Property Owner’s Association Office, 30 Hackamore Lane, Bell Canyon. In 2002, the District supplied approximately 1,530 acre-feet of water for domestic, landscape irrigation, and fire protection needs. District water is imported from the State Water Project through Metropolitan Water District (MWD), Calleguas Municipal Water District (CMWD), and Ventura County Waterworks District No. 8 (City of Simi Valley). Water from the State Water Project originates in northern California. This water is captured in reservoirs north of Sacramento and released through the natural rivers and streams into the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The 444-mile long California Aqueduct then carries water from south of the delta to State Water Project contractors, including MWD. MWD treats the water at Jensen Treatment Plant located in Granada Hills. CMWD purchases water from MWD and purveys it to 26 water suppliers within Ventura County. Water supplied by CMWD is distributed to District customers through Ventura County Waterworks District No. 8.
