Sphere of Influence as updated by Ventura LAFCO February 18, 2004. Amended on October 19, 2005. Ventura County Waterworks District No. 19 (District) was created on November 4, 1980, and serves approximately 2,200 customers through 1,085 service connections, 295 of which are agricultural. The District encompasses 14,400 acres and includes the Somis community and surrounding rural areas. The Ventura County Board of Supervisors is the governing body of the District. All proposed policy changes are reviewed by the Citizen’s Advisory Committee prior to Board action. The Citizen’s Advisory Committee members are appointed by the Ventura County Board of Supervisors. Meetings are held bimonthly in the District office at 7150 Walnut Canyon Road, Moorpark. If you wish to participate, please call (805) 584-4830 for the specific date and time. In the year 2002, the District supplied approximately 3,180 acre-feet of water, 10% from one of our wells and 90% from imported sources. Agricultural customers consumed approximately 70% of the total water. Domestic, commercial, industrial, and fire protection customers consumed the remaining 30%. The District’s water distribution system consists of 55 miles of water lines, seven pumping stations, 15 pressure-reducing stations, and nine reservoirs storing 3.09 million gallons of water. Local water, treated by chlorination, is supplied from three groundwater wells owned and maintained by the District. Imported water comes from the State Water Project through the Metropolitan Water District (MWD) and Calleguas Municipal Water District (CMWD). Water from the State Water Project originates in northern California. This water is captured in reservoirs north of Sacramento and released through the natural rivers and streams into the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The 444-mile long California Aqueduct then carries water from south of the delta to State Water Project contractors around the state, including MWD. MWD treats the water at Jensen Treatment Plant located in Granada Hills.
